Noobs

As we know the vet field is struggling for help just like everyone else is in the world. All the seasoned ones are leaving because they are done with the bullshit and so we have all these fresh young faces applying to the vet field and really have no idea what they are getting into. I can say things are tougher right now then they were when i started for sure. This is a challenge for sure.  At my work we have hired three new techs. One has been in the field and took a break and other two are babies to the field (we all started there). One is almost done her schooling for vet tech degree and the other is in school for a science degree.  I was lucky enough when i started to have some incredible mentors to teach me, patient, kind and wise and a sense of humor. These two really inspired me and showed me to love this job and i continued to meet such amazing techs who taught me great things. The biggest thing we all have to remember when starting out is patience and understanding. we litera

NOMV- Not one more Vet

NOMV. What is this not one more vet that is talked about in the profession you may ask? The veterinary profession has one of the highest suicide rates known. And i can tell you Covid made it twice as worse. People are mean and nasty, the profession as a whole is overworked, underpaid, and under appreciated. Its not just about the veterinarians its about all the staff, the techs and receptionists. We all get beaten down. Unfortunately a lot of people in this profession go into it already having there own mental struggles to begin with and the field exaggerates it.  See my previous post for more on this topic. I signed up to do the virtual walk this year. It is the second year they are doing it. I am very passionate about this cause. I have talked about it in a previous post. They are trying to start a chapter in Portland Maine and i signed up to be a part of that. Zoetis is the biggest sponsor behind it. We need to spread more awareness and get more resources and help change this field

Mental AWAREness

Growing up I can't say I was never really exposed to a lot about mental awareness or even people who had mental problems. I learned about my family history as I got older and knew that depression, anxiety and, adhd were in the family. No shame about that. I am in my 30's now and thankfully have yet to experience any of that enough, where medication is needed. As I ventured out into the world and met more people, some of them did have problems; social anxiety, anxiety, ocd, bipolar, depression , addiction etc. I learned more about certain issues and how it impacted their lives and how they tried to cope with it.  Going into the veterinary field I knew, relatively, that it was not all fun and games but I did not realize how bad it really was. Not only is this field in the top dangerous fields to work in but it also has some of the highest suicide rates of any profession. I can say that is not something to be proud of. The toxicity, the burnout, the lack of pay/benefits, compassi
